5 x small octavo, unpaginated. Original patterned and lettered wrappers. Original colour limitation and introduction insert signed by Rem Koolhaas. 5 x original colour prints, in envelope stamped with the original OMA archive stamp. Housed in original patterned and lettered paper covered box. As new.Limited edition boxset, one of only 100 signed and numbered by Rem Koolhaas, of this collection of five essays by one of the worlds leading architectural thinkers. As founding partner of the fabled Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), Harvard professor and winner of the Venice Biennale Golden Lion for lifetime achievement Rem Koolhaas has done more than anyone to shape our ideas about modern urban design and development. In keeping with the polymath ethos of OMA, the five pieces in this collection range beyond conventional limits to encompass architecture, city planning, cultural criticism, memoir, and the essay as an exercise in literary form. Presented as five separate booklets, the Five Cities box set is intended to be read in any order, in the manner of BS Johnsons classic The Unfortunates, reflecting the process of memory, and the patterns of urban growth. Combining the raw purity of the samizdat aesthetic with crisp graphic design, Five Cities is not only a collection of essays but also an exercise in structure and form in itself.
